The author after a short survey of church history in NZ leads readers through a kind of "deconstruction" process to accept his idea that there is nothing like a Christian worldview and then to the next step which is to embrace Maori worldview with Maori gods, mauri (something like a soul) and wairua (spirit). ![]() I have found the book extremely disturbing and dangerous propagating "the other gospel".Īctually, it contains Critical Race Theory ideas applied to New Zealand circumstances in a want-to-be prophetic Christian habit. ![]() ![]() I don't have the right words to describe this book, but I loved it. I love the presence of all these to me unusual and different cultural elements and the way they're carefully woven to the story and its mythology. The culture draws much from Asian culture and mythology - I frankly don't know enough about Asian cultures to comment on it except that it would appear to specifically based on Vietnamese culture, which is the author's background as well. Broadly speaking that's true, but it's not just a straight retelling of any version I know, but takes the main themes and weaves a story entirely of its own, of a young woman forced to live in the palace of a female dragon, and finding herself drawn towards her. This is a short, stand-alone fantasy novel which I saw recommended as a queer retelling of the Beauty and the Beast. ![]() ![]() For once I'm remembering to write a bit of a book review for fffriday, partly helped by the fact that I did just finish this book today! ![]() ![]() ![]() After The Carnage, her second book was published in 2016 to critical acclaim. Through an analysis of media coverage and official statements from the government, I trace the discursive construction of the crisis through the deployment of battle metaphors. In this paper, I argue that the coronavirus pandemic in Britain was successfully framed as a crisis, but that the ritualization of solidarity normally generated by this meaning was compromised. But while biology played a crucial role in triggering the pandemic, the resulting crisis developed through a social process. ![]() Realism has predominated in discussions about the coronavirus pandemic where politicians, authorities, and commentators debate over the substance and consequence of scientific facts. ![]() ![]() ![]() It makes me itch to pick up Emerald Blaze. But I’m just not quite sure about the ins and outs of this. Something that draws me in and leaves me grinning like a fool. There is just something wonderful about the writing that makes it almost impossible to put down the book from the very beginning. This book is just as amazing, wonderful and phenomenal as all of the other Andrews books. ![]() ![]() ![]() In fairness, love interest Nikki is a much better character, and I enjoyed the chapters that she narrated significantly more.ĭespite the repetitiveness of the plot, there are still some reasons to read this one. In particular, Luis himself can be a jerk, who seems to think he’s far better than his brother Carlos just because he’s more intelligent. I haven’t actually read Perfect Chemistry, but I got a rough idea of what happened in it when I read Rules of Attraction, and while Rules of Attraction was a really enjoyable read, this just seems to be more of the same but with less likeable characters. This was an entertaining read in many ways, but as fans of Elkeles will have noticed from the brief plot summary above, it has marked similarities to the earlier two books about the Fuentes brothers. ![]() Who will win out – the gang, or the girl?
